If you are a kid, all you need to prepare is a calculator to make the calculation faster. Otherwise, you can mentally calculate it or write it on the paper. Remember to not ask the telephone number of your friend nor memorize it. Remind your friend that his telephone number should be kept secret so that you can predict it with no bogus.
Phone Number Used for Math Tricks
So here it goes, tell your friend that you can predict their telephone number but you need the calculator as a medium. Mimic a psychic in convincing that you have a telepathic ability.
- Give your friend a calculator.
- Instruct him to input the first three digit of their telephone number in the calculator, excluding the area code.
Example: The telephone number is 486-9899. Ask your friend to press the numbers of 4,8, and 6. The calculator displays 486.
- Now, let him multiply it by 80.
Example: 486x80 = 38880
- Let him add 1
Example: 38880+1 = 38881
- Ask him to multiply it by 250
Example: 38881 x 250 = 9720250
- Let him add the last four digit of their phone number.
Example: In the sample telephone number above, we have 9899. So add it, resulting to
9720250+9899 = 9730149
- Let him add the same four digit number again.
Example: 9730149+9899 = 9740048
- Ask your friend to subtract 250 from the preceding sum.
Example: 9740048-250 = 9739798
- Instruct your friend to divide it by 2.
Example: 9739798/2 = 4869899
Voila! you got it right. You are now a certified math-magician.
